Types of Coverage

Georgia drivers must carry minimum liability insurance, but it won't cover your injuries or vehicle damage. Increasing your coverage limits can be a caring choice to enhance protection and provide peace of mind, particularly if you have significant assets or a newer vehicle.

Bodily Injury Liability: 25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident

Property Damage Liability: $25,000 per accident

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage (UM/UIM): Optional but highly recommended—covers you if the at-fault driver has no insurance or insufficient coverage.

Comprehensive: Covers non-collision damages (theft, vandalism, weather).

Collision: Covers vehicle damage in any accident, regardless of fault.

Medical Payments: This helps cover medical expenses for you and your passengers after an accident, regardless of fault. This is optional in Georgia.

Roadside Assistance & Rental Car: Covers emergency services and car rental while yours is repaired.

Collision/Comprehensive: Typically ranges from $0 to $2,000. Higher deductibles lower monthly premiums but increase out-of-pocket costs after a claim.

Liability Coverage: Typically has a deductible, but ensures adequate coverage for lawsuits or property damage.

Proof of Insurance: Required by law and can be digital or physical.

SR-22 Insurance: For drivers with suspended licenses due to serious offenses, you may need to file an SR-22 form with the state.

Texting & Driving: Illegal, with fines increasing if involved in an accident.

Seat Belt Law: Georgia law requires all passengers to wear seat belts or face fines.

Drivewise is a telematics-based auto insurance program that tracks your driving habits to provide personalized discounts. Through a mobile app or device in your vehicle, it monitors your driving behavior and rewards safe driving with discounts.

Multi-Policy: Bundling your auto insurance with other policies (such as home insurance) often leads to significant savings.

Safe Driver: If you maintain a clean driving record for a certain number of years, you may qualify for a discount.

Anti-Theft & Low Mileage: Eligible for discounts with anti-theft devices or fewer miles driven.

Student: Full-time students with good grades can often get discounts, as they are statistically less likely to be involved in accidents.

Defensive Driving Course: Completing a defensive driving course could reduce your premium.

Rates

Rates vary depending on:

Driving History: Clean records lower premiums; accidents or violations will raise rates.

Location: Urban areas like Atlanta see higher rates due to more accidents and theft, while rural areas often have lower premiums.

Credit Score: Insurers often use credit-based insurance scores to determine premiums. Good credit often leads to lower premiums.

Coverage Levels: Higher coverage limits and more comprehensive policies mean higher premiums.
